The annual exhibition day of the Gauteng Model Boat Club will take place from 10h00 to 13h00 on Sunday, 28 November. There will be static and working displays and demonstrations of:

  • Functioning scale models such as submarines, corvettes, destroyers, battleships, landing craft, tug boats, coast gaurd ships, steam boats, fishing trawlers and passenger liners
  • Racing sail boats including SeaWind and International One Metre racing classes
  • High-speed racing motor boats - the Mad Shark Formula One boats.

Come and see all the action of the functioning models with their diesel smoke and sounds, fire monitors, lights, cranes and guns, or experience the buzz of the racing boats or the cut-and-thrust competition of the racing yachts!

GMBC IOM Championship - Final Round
There was so much wind at Rusty Hook on Sunday 7 November that all nine races were completed before lunch time. The championship was tied at 10 points apiece between Brent and Bruce H coming into the day's final round and after eight races the entire year's championship hinged on the very last race of the day and Brent's result gave him the 2021 title. Get full race results here.

2021 GMBC SeaWind Sailing Championships - Round 7
The seventh and penultimate round of the GMBC SeaWind championship took place at Emmarentia Dam on 17 October, with the regatta going down to the final race and the results ended in a tie between Brent and Bruce H which was only resolved on a count back. Peter was third.

2021 GMBC IOM Sailing Championships - Round 7
The seventh round of the GMBC IOM championship took place on Sunday 3 October at Rusty Hook. There was a good breeze, but we had to contend with lots of debris in the water from the recent storms. No fewer than seven different skippers (Bruce H, Brent, Bernd, Terrance, Brandon, Owen, Bernie shared the wins! Bruce, Brent and Bernd took the podium positions. The championship is now on a knife edge with Brent and Bruce both on 10 points and one round left. Thanks to Lu-Anne for doing the scoring. Get full results here.

2021 IOM National Sailing Championships
The IOM Nationals will take place on Sat 13 and Sun 14 November at Wemmer Pan. (This is not a GMBC event.) You now have a few months in which to get your boat and sails measured and registered, and to join SAS and SARSA, without which you won't be able to compete. These two regattas provide a golden opportunity to pit yourself against the best RC sailing talent in the country, including a former IOM World Champion. The fact that they are taking place in our own backyard means that you can compete without incurring substantial travel and accommodation expenses at away venues. Use this time to get yourself and your boat compliant so that you can come and join in the fun!

Adding Buoyancy to RC Yachts
SeaWinds (and most RC yachts) do not have any positive buoyancy. If enough water gets into the hull the ballast at the bottom of the keel will pull the boat under water and it will be gone in seconds, never to be seen again. But it's quite easy to make your boat survive such an accident by adding buoyancy. Read more here...
